Amazon’s announcement of a fitness device that analyzes your mood and other conditions, based on voice data, was strange and unexpected. The media was unanimous in giving voice to its skepticism and suspicion, based purely on privacy concerns. We’ve included a couple in this newsletter. My favorite description of the Halo wearable was “surveillance capitalism in a $100 device.”
Google wound its way through the healthcare landscape, announcing a $100 million investment in soon-to-go-IPO Amwell, and Verily separately announced it was getting into the stop-loss health insurance business (never even knew such a business existed). Google’s approach seems to be all about data/analytics and/or cloud, while others are taking a more direct approach to healthcare.
One thing is for sure: the evolution of the digital health market is leading to a rapid restructuring of the healthcare sector. In my latest piece in CIO online, I discuss how the Livongo/Teladoc merger is a catalyst for the acceleration of digital transformation.
Despite the extension in deadlines for compliance with the CMS final interoperability ruling, healthcare enterprises, specifically payers, appear to be unprepared to meet the deadlines. Dr Joyoti Goswami, our principal consultant, writes about what healthcare enterprises and tech firms must do to meet the deadlines.
Our guest blog this week is from Steve Miff, President and CEO of PCCI and author of Building Connected Communities of Care. He argues that data done right has the power to galvanize communities, inform leaders, and empower people – especially during a global pandemic.
I was featured in several podcasts last week. Feel free to check out the Becker’s podcast and the CHIME Leader to Leader podcast episodes where I discuss the key themes in our book.
P.s. We’re still on the Amazon bestseller list! Signed copies of my new book Healthcare Digital Transformation, are available at the link below. You can also get your print and eBook versions on Amazon. An audio version will be available soon.
