Issue 101

In my book Healthcare Digital Transformation, I discuss a 4-stage digital maturity model for health systems. The framework and its accompanying DigiMTMonline self-assessment tool have helped health systems benchmark their digital maturity against their peers. Our latest white paper analyzes the maturity assessments of select health systems. It’s an informative document for health systems executives and the technology firms that work with them.

Is telehealth at a crossroads? The initial spike of pandemic-induced telehealth visits is now giving way to a more thoughtful approach, especially as virtual visits drop off and patients start returning to hospitals. In my latest article, on CIO online, I discuss three aspects that health systems must consider before expanding their telehealth programs.

The digital health/virtual care/telehealth space is reorganizing rapidly as incumbent players like Zocdoc look to expand their “surface area,” and the “full-stack” digital health tech startups gear up to compete with traditional healthcare service providers.

A number of leading health systems have gotten together to launch a data platform, Truveta, that will pool deidentified patient data to enable advanced analytics and insights for improved healthcare outcomes. I hosted a Clubhouse check-in last week to get some views from colleagues and industry experts. I will cover this in some more detail in the coming weeks.

Season 3 of our podcast is in full swing. Last week, I interviewed Bill Krause, VP and GM, Experience and Consumer Engagement at Change Healthcare, and Dr. Colin Banas, Chief Medical Officer at DrFirst. Take a listen.

Have a great week.
