I’m really thrilled to share our 100th newsletter issue. Since we started publishing in 2018, we have more or less managed to put the newsletter out every week, except for major holidays and the year-end holiday break. We have made several format changes based on user feedback and enriched the content constantly. We hope you continue to find it useful and would love to hear on how we can improve it even further. Cloud computing got a big boost this week as Kaiser Permanente announced a multi-year partnership with Microsoft and Accenture to improve digital experiences for clinicians and patients. The focus seems to be specifically on using massive computing power to deliver advanced insights in real-time to clinicians for better care for patients. We have seen this recurring theme in cloud computing deals announced recently by Google. With AWS business head Andy Jassy taking over as the new CEO for parent company Amazon, we can expect an increase in focus on cloud strategies in healthcare – just as we did when Satya Nadella stepped up from his role as head of the Azure cloud business to become the CEO of Microsoft a few years ago. Other aspects of the technology infrastructure for enabling digital health are getting plenty of attention. A joint study by CHIME and KLAS confirms interoperability is making steady progress; however, a lack of understanding of provider workflows by technology vendors seems to be holding back faster progress. I wrote an article back in December in Healthcare IT News where I discuss why telehealth cannot continue to be a one-size-fits-all approach. I had stated that telehealth looks different for millennials and retirees, rural and urban patients, and population groups with fundamentally different healthcare needs. Last week, studies published in Health Affairs and JAMA confirmed that telehealth usage varies by demographics and specialties. As we progress further with telehealth, we will see programs customized for individual segments such as transgender populations. The future of telehealth has only just begun. My latest podcast guest is Pamela Landis, VP of Digital Patient Engagement at Hackensack Meridian Health in New Jersey. In an interesting coincidence with our theme for this week’s newsletter, she discusses how HMH used AWS to scale up their website infrastructure to handle increased traffic for vaccine appointments online. Take a listen. Have a great week. Paddy |

In this episode, Pamela Landis discusses how they brought together a ‘digital ecosystem,’ a.k.a. a digital front door strategy. She also talks about how they engage patients at every major touchpoint of their journey by providing a seamless digital experience that is intuitive, consumer-friendly, and easy to use. |
