Offering examples, she describes how the relatively new innovation group at Geisinger is achieving success by developing a fundamentally different approach to solving problems and demonstrating quantifiable outcomes. She also cautions against deploying new technologies in healthcare interventions that may increase the total costs of care. Take a listen.
Of late, we are seeing a trend of health systems recruiting Chief Digital Officers from outside the industry. They include Aaron Martin at Providence Health (Amazon), Prat Vemana at Kaiser Permanente (Home Depot), and Suja Chandrasekaran, the newly appointed CIO and Chief Digital Officer for CommonSpirit (Kimberly-Clark). Perhaps this is an acknowledgment that healthcare needs new thinking if it has to compete effectively in an era of healthcare consumerism.
